I couldn't put this novel down. I kept reminding myself that this novel was fiction. The characters seemed to come alive. The cop investigates the death of the family of one of the twins. I recommend this novel.

March 11, 2007 by emtcater
GREAT BOOK. I have a unique perspective on this book; I earned my degree in Law Enforcement and then did a 180 turn, and entered the Catholic Seminary, discerning a possible vocation to the priesthood. While I eventually discerned that I didn't have that vocation, I remember fondly my time in the seminary. Several years later, I joined the police department as an Auxiliary Officer (some places call them reserves). Throughout the book, I nodded my head as both Gio and Tom recalled their experiences, both in the Sea and in the police academy. The author pretty much hit the nail on the head with things that occur in both. Well written, well developed.

Not a standard murder mystery
September 14, 2016 by Amazon Customer (verified purchase)
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was really well written. The characters were developed throughout and in great detail. Maybe too much in that over half the book is just a prelude to the actual police work, although I don't know how it could have been done differently.
My only real criticism is that the author put too much politics into the story, I do have to balance this with the fact that his politics are quite different from mine, so maybe not.
At any rate it was an enjoyable read if a bit slow, meaning lack of action, for this type of book.

In the classic whodunit, this story is full of suspense and intrigue. What will destroy the loyalty between a priest, a cop, a politician? As an Angeleno, you are drawn to the story and the characters as the author takes you through a bit of nostalgia: he describes what appear to be everyone's childhood buddies, places and sounds very familiar to you—almost as if he describes your own life. However, the story turns into one of greed, deception, corruption and murder. It is captivating and engaging. You are left wondering…is it fact or fiction? Positively a book to read. It is a drama mystery in the classic detective style.

Haunting and Compelling Tale
November 8, 2013 by Edie Dykeman
Shattered Triangle is essentially a story of three men who grew up together - two of them were twins - and who each took a different path as an adult. One became a cop, one a priest, and one a politician with high goals. The author takes a detailed look at their lives, their interaction with one another, and the decisions they made during the course of their lives and, eventually, how they reacted when tragedy struck. This is one of the most powerful and gripping stories I've read in a long time. Even now, several days after finishing the book, I'm haunted by the events that took place and how each man chose to deal with the circumstances.

Shattered Triangle Review
August 22, 2013 by Denise Gonzalez (Phoenix, Arizona USA)
Shattered Triangle is an interesting study of friendships, and the influence of church, society and politics on these friendships. To whit, three kids who grew up together—particularly one set of twins— and all three went separate ways—one into law; one to God; and one to politics. The bottom line is which ones succumbs to greed and corruption.
Mr. Messenger takes you on a journey that is exciting and brings you to a twist ending. It leaves you hoping for a sequel.
I would recommend twos book to anyone who follows politics, faith and mystery genres. You have all 3 wrapped in one great package.

November 15, 2012 by George A. Jenkins "gaj" (la costa)
Shattered Triangle is not just a mystery novel, it is a study of people from an author that has spent his life on this mission. The wisdom contained in the this book is obtained by reading between the lines and the silence between the words and paragraphs. The wisdom comes from the soul of a writer, William P. Messenger, and his variety of life experiences—many of which appear in the characters of the book. The Book when studied as a teaching rather than a novel, contains lessons for all humans that want to see justice served and fair play the norm not just as a sound bite, but rather as a human reality in our daily lives.

Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles during the latter part of the 20th Century, Shattered Triangle is a crime drama that not only explores the tangled mystery of multiple murders, but the complex relationship among three childhood friends. The book's author William Messenger, does a great job of character development, connecting the golden post-war era of Southern California with the lives of each character and how each matured in response to that era in the person they became. Messenger crafts a scenario of mystery and intrigue leaving the reader curious as to how the tale will end. The book is enjoyable and a great read - I would recommend it to everyone.

What an interesting bunch of characters that were well thought out and interesting. I liked the direction the story took and it had just the right amount of twists and turns that kept my interest and it didn't feel overdone. I look forward to reading more books from this author.

Good read, however it leaves me convinced cheaters always win, evil beats good, and we are doomed. I'd like to share a nice bottle of wine with the author as his words express our current climate perfectly!

Not a standard murder mystery

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was really well written. The characters were developed throughout and in great detail. Maybe too much in that over half the book is just a prelude to the actual police work, although I don't know how it could have been done differently.
My only real criticism is that the author put too much politics into the story, I do have to balance this with the fact that his politics are quite different from mine, so maybe not.
At any rate it was an enjoyable read if a bit slow, meaning lack of action, for this type of book.

Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.

Staggering in its implications, this autor's insightful venture into greed, religion and law through a dedicated lieutenant and priest merely exacerbates the voting public's view on government corruption.

Starts off a bit slow, lots of character development but at about half way it becomes a page turner. I was about 1/2 through and thought to myself…OK I'll finish this in 2-3 more sittings…nope I could not put the book (iPad) down and finished the second half in one sitting. Highly recommend!!! I bought the paperback from Amazon to get the author's signature at a book signing.

I highly recommend Shattered Triangle. Three unique characters are carefully intertwined to create a drama that held my interest and kept me thirsty for more. The narrative is peppered with interesting and historical references to the City of Los Angeles, where the story takes place. Shattered Triangle's themes are deeply rooted, and take the reader through the entire spectrum of human emotions. Don't pass up this great read!

Although I don't usually read thrillers, I found this book totally engrossing. After starting this book one evening, I was unable to put it down for long and eventually finished it over a two day period. The LA setting was meticulously written. Since I am and LA native, I found myself driving down those same streets in my mind as I was reading them on the page, and enjoying it the whole time. Each character was fully written and believable. Overall, I highly recommend Shattered Triangle.

This book was very enjoyable. The characters are engaging, well developed and have a complexity that keeps the reader wanting to learn more about each character. There is an abundance of Los Angeles history in this book and I have always been drawn to novels that include the history of the Los Angeles area. This novel does not disappoint as it paints a nostalgic picture of historic Los Angeles.

I don't read novels., but I heard good things about this one. I was not disappointed. Some of the history was a bit detailed, but I learned a lot about Los Angeles. The characters were great, and the storyline was a page turner. I want to hear more about these people. Hopefully, there will be a sequel.

Top Notch Thriller with an unexpected twist . . .
April 11, 2013 by Arex
A tremendous amount of nostalgia in the beginning gives you the feeling of having grown up in the same neighborhood alongside the main characters. The pace quickens in the second half with skilled writing throwing twists and turns on every other page. Nicely done!

2nd read

The character development was great. Each character was their own person, yet their blending was vital to the story. The author totally maintained the old saying of being a true "page turner". You wanted know why this happened and could anyone have helped stop or even prevent it.
